Zakat Made Simple
Calculating your Zakat is easier than you think. Just follow these three simple steps:
-
1. Work Out Your Assets
• Cash & savings
• Gold & silver
• Business stock
• Investments
-
2. Subtract Your Debts
• Bills due soon
• Outstanding loans
-
3. Check the Nisab & Pay 2.5%
If your net total is above the nisab (the minimum wealth to owe Zakat), you pay 2.5% in Zakat.
> Nisab = value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver.
To determine the Nisab in money, check current rates online or at your local jeweller and calculate the value accordingly.
For example:
If gold is £80 per gram, then the gold Nisab is: 87.48 g × £80 = £6,998.40.
If silver is £0.90 per gram, then the silver Nisab is: 612.36 g × £0.90 = £551.12.
Use the actual price per gram on the day to calculate your exact Nisab.
